The Living City Campus is a centre of excellence for urban sustainability, where people gather to learn, research, demonstrate, and get inspired by technologies and practices that help build sustainable city regions. Operated by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), The Living City Campus is a collaborative initiative supported by the participation of progressive organizations and individuals engaged in advancing sustainability solutions.

Learning that transforms

Learning happens in many ways. Whether it is researchers evaluating new technologies, school children exploring renewable energy along the Power Trip Trail, farmers integrating sustainable farming practices into their farm operations, or construction professionals practicing photovoltaic installation – they are all gaining invaluable knowledge and understanding.  By providing these and other learning opportunities, The Living City Campus aims to transform, not only individual perspectives, but our collective capacity to build a healthy and lasting city region.

Inspired by Nature

The Campus is set apart from many sustainability centres by its natural setting. Nestled among protected forests, fields, rivers and wetlands, which support a rich diversity of wildlife, the campus brings nature into the urban sustainability equation. Students, researchers and all visitors are constantly reminded by the natural surroundings, that human behaviors and technologies are truly sustainable when they work in harmony with nature.

Bringing Sustainability to Life

More than theoretical concepts, sustainability solutions at The Living City Campus are experienced through real-world demonstrations. While classrooms can be part of the learning experience, the natural setting, green buildings tours, interactive displays, knowledgeable staff and technology installations let visitors get the fit and feel of sustainability.
